It’s the middle of Feb already?!
Man, when it’s a short month, boy they weren’t kidding.
Time for a “splat” post, where is just a general overview of what I’ve been up to with out resorting to my usually long -winded and frequently delayed normal post.
- Been playing World of Warcraft – why yes I don’t mind having my foot in my mouth. Frankly I still think it’s gameplay is dumbed down and lacks innovation, yet it’s just pure mindless fun; and I could use some of that right now.
- Ubuntu update – Installed a new 3-D windows manager which gives my Gnome desktop some of the qualities of Windows Vista. Installed new graphic drivers and a new soundcard without any trouble. Also managed to get WoW working in Ubuntu. It’s great when things just work.
- Been looking at Second Life again what with the new wave of media coverage. Also JY is really into it and is doing amazing things in her business venture there. I’m very proud of her. I couldn’t do half of what she can do in there and am glad that she has found an outlet for her creativity. It’s pretty time consuming though.
- Been thinking about my own areas of creative outlets. Writing/blogging, 3-D object building, programming/scripting, computer music production. All these I do or have tried and frankly I kinda suck in all of them or can’t commit to any set timeline. I could blame a lack of focus, but that means the problem is deep within myself and not just a simple fact that I have no creativity. Neither option is comforting.
It’s actually amazing how Second Life is sweeping the higher-education industry here. My own University… well, my office, one person in particular has gotten a land-grant, and she and I have been playing around in there. In fact, I’ll be making a presentation in May (hopefully) to statewide educators about SL. For educational purposes, there are tons of ideas and possibilities, however, I enjoy it just for the randomness. Always about random. (I accidentally wound up with a male avatar, and am trying various things to get it to look more… me…. I’m not so good at it yet!)
Anyway.. just my two cents. And yes, I’m still around. ^_^
