Urgh. A week without posts. And to think I had a somewhat good momentum going.
Forgive the unabashedly geeky post title, but I did just go through the concept today during my Network upgrading course. And in a way, it kinda explains the week that I have had.
The beginning of the week was a big rush with trying to get as much as possible done before the move to my new department. One big part of it was receiving the company issued laptop. It really the first time for me in owning a laptop of my own (of sorts) so, naturally I was pretty excited. The experience turned out to be bitter-sweet however, as I now facing a problem in how to bring the laptop around with the bag that I have. On top of that, after taking two nights in setting it up just the way I like and what’s most efficient when it comes to work, I just found out that my new department will require me to clean off everything in the laptop and install their custom software in the name of security.
I totally understand where they are coming from, but no IM clients? Well crap. Just when I’ve been enjoying very interesting and fun chats.
And the “fun” with the new work site just continues. The date of the transfer has long been announced but on the day itself, it turns out that there has been no place prepared for us, no Net access to actually get anything done and so forth. And so the days following that just has us going back and forth, not being able to do work on either side, stuck in a state of limbo. Hence the relation to the concept of Routing Loops, where data packets go around and around in a network, lost.
While I know that any new transfer and work position as new as mine are bound to have teething problems, it’s still a lesson in frustration.
Oh well, it remains to be seen how things go, and I’m still mostly positive about all this. On top of which, some rather interesting scenarios has emerged which should be quite fun looking into

Chugga chugga chugga chugga… toot toot!
