Crash Dump

Heh. Typical.

Just after I make a post about not letting things like a little new blog effect my activity here and what happens? i disappear for the next two weeks.

I should stop baitting myself like that.

My computer system (or Rig as some hackers like to call them) was down for some time over the last two weeks. First was due to a faulty power supply and buying a replacement without checking, which just added another day to the down time.

Next was after installing a nice little disk imaging burning/creating piece of software, which then went on to re-assign my drive letters causing Windows XP to break. There where many ways to fix this problem, but somehow none of them could work. So I turned to my Norton Ghost backups which where only 2-3 months old, only to find that for restoring a system boot image I needed the bootable CD, which I somehow, don’t have.

So balls to me.

Thus, I’m left with having to do a clean install. Which is not much of a problem since all my data and installation files are on my second hard disk. But it’s the time spent having to reinstall stuff that makes it a downer. Then there is all the little things that get messed up, like my Firefox profile not being able to be imported properly, which just irritates me so.

Sigh.

On the other hand though, a clean install can be quite refreshing. It allows me to fix some installation settings that where messed up, now that I know better (one of which actually lead to this situtation). Programs run faster and forces you to rethink all the programs you normally use and may even make yourself more productive as a result.

Like many have commented in this helpful post on reinstalling WindowsXP, it actually may be something to do on a regular basis, as Windows seems to just gather junk and slows down after time. If it has been like 2-3 years, doing a reinstall may make it seem like having a whole new computer again.

If so, then it’s just about the right time for me.

Ya know, there’s nothing more wonderful and exciting than a brandnew, clean, install. (Except when you have to do it because of accidently erasing your C drive… lol) I wondered what happened to you :) Sorry to hear about the comp, but welcome back!

dude…just think along the lines that I talk about my computers like you about your guitars and then we’ll be all square ;)

So the third “Merv” I know finally shows up. Starting to get confusing…good thing one of the other Mervs I know I simply call “Bok”, his last name, which just rolls off the tongue so much easier
