…And that’s it. End of my first full-time working week. Nothing really outstanding to report, no stories of woe, of unreasonable customers or sordid office politics. And even if there were, I wouldn’t be inclined to mention any of it here
Not going let this degenerate into a place where I just moan and complain about work and how bad my boss is and so forth. I’m sure everyone has enough of their own work related problems.
But in the meantime, I’ll post up some stuff I notice about work, the office environment and the things and thoughts that I come up with or discover while being in that environment. Bare with me while I get settled down with it all and finally shut up about it.
Right. So first off. Cubicles.
Have to say that my office is almost your typical cube farm that we see in movies, TV and the like. So not having been in that kind of environment at length before, I was kinda interested to see how I would feel about it. Right away, the interesting thing that stood out for me was the sense of privacy that you feel you have while in the cubicle (it’s not even mine, don’t think I’ll be getting mine for some time), when in actual fact, you don’t truly have that much.
The walls of the cube act as a visual barrier, and in that matter, gives a sense of security and focus where you actually want and can do what you are supposed to do. Yet it doesn’t do anything to block out most aural input, so you are sub-consciously aware that you are not alone, and that you’re basically in a really big room with allot of people. The only open side of the cube is usually angled facing your back, which only just adds to the illusion of privacy. Personally I kinda like it. And I’m sure I’ll like it even more if I ever get my own cube so that I can decorate it as I see fit. Yet I like being aware of the fact that my co-works are not further than 4 feet away, yet we all use IM to communicate when it is just an easy effort to turn one’s head and speak a little louder.
Just goes to show how easy it is to trick and make humans docile….almost like cattle.

Heh, my office isn’t quite the cubicle farm, although we are quite close. And we also use IM to communicate.. throughout the entire campus, so it seems (or at least, as far as IS and IS-related ppl are concerned). So no fun stuff yet, right? You’re still in training mode?
Yep still in training mode. It’s offically going to take 4 months. There is a ton of stuff to learn and remember and my head is starting to hurt from having to cram so much as fast as I can. My boss and co-workers would tell me not to worry so much, but I somehow feel that I need to be up to par as soon as possible. It’s not easy just sitting there listening as cases come in and the fact that we are actually somewhat shorthanded. Guess I just want to be able to help and not have to ask them for help and be a bother.
You still got a long way to go. It’s not easy to become professional personel, eh.
Wish you’ll stop being so aggressive Jer. I basically already said that I “still got a long way to go” and you know that I understand how difficult it is to be a professional. Think of something a little more constructive to say.
