Well after a few failed attempts over the last few years, we the people in Crossover have finally pulled off a successful surprise birthday party last Sat.
The main man of the night (apart from the birthday boy himself of course) has to go to Derong who set everything up, got everyone together and kept Hao occupied while the main deal went down over at his house. He gets big props from me just by letting me know about it two weeks in advance, I hate it when last minute plans are attempted, too much stress for everyone and they never seem to work out.
I didn’t do much other than just showing up on time, but Zhen and Clarisse did a fine job getting some decorations up and getting Hao some niffy presents. It’s good to see them, as they don’t usually turn up much during Service, which is kind of a pity as they would be fine additions to liven things up. Clarisse is more of the bubbly (and loud!) one while Zhen is more the quiet, mischievous one. I don’t know Zhen that well, but I think it’s kinda hard for her to be the quiet one that people overlook until she hits you with something big as she tends to stand out in a crowd due to her, IMHO*, exotic looks.
Another group of people that I got to just sit and interact with are the younger guys. Tim John, Jon, Aus, Jovin, Jeremy and the rest of that gang. It was just fun to just sit there and watch them throw barbs, insults and jokes across and around the table at and with Daniel V. Daniel does a good job of keeping up with them and playing along. Makes me wonder how Ed and Crystal handle them during cell group.
Got to talk a little to Ian T during the night as well. I always found Ian to be stand up funny guy but somehow we never really spoke much over the years. Anyways, he has been having some computer trouble so we got a talking about the things that could be done that might solve the problem. Later on, I and couple of the guys got him to teach us how to play the new card game that he got for Hao, seeing as that he works at a gaming shop and all. I’m not sure what the status is between him and Jinx, as she is leaving to study in Melbourne later this week (and because I’m always out of the loop being one of the outsiders), but he is a blessed man to be with her as she is a pretty nice girl. I may have misgivings regarding long-distance relationships but if Ken E and Renee can work through it, I think Ian and Jinx deserve that chance as well.
In case anyone has noticed, yes the whole point of this post is to talk about the people in Crossover. I feel that I sometimes don’t talk about the people in my life enough on this blog, in fear of giving away too much information about them (or myself). So I’m trying to make some changes and be more open around here now. I’ll still keep some people’s name secret or just use their nick names just in case and so as not to confuse too much.
Other than that, I’m pretty glad that I managed to socialize quite a bit at the party. I’m usually not that good at parties but I’m glad that I made an effort that night. I think the party environment itself helps allot, the food was fantastic and the wine really helped make everyone a little more relaxed.
In the end I had a great time. I’m glad to know that it is still not too little too late.
(*IMHO – In My Humble Opinion)

Dude… do you realise your comments counter always says ’0′ no matter how many comments there are?
Actually the blog is set up to wait for me to approve all comments before it moves the counter or display them for everyone else. You do get to see the comments that you have written all the time though
