Very late update. I know.
Big news of the week is that the popular photo-sharing community web sevice Flickr.com has been bought over by that portal giant called Yahoo.com.
Mere weeks after I finally gotten around to signning up for the service too, now that I’m able to do some mobphotologing. I had finally gotten used to the features and functions of the service and I liked what I saw too. The notes, ability to search by tags and group photo pool are all functions that I particually enjoy.
So I’m a little uneasy about the news. On one hand I’m happy that they are getting some proper backing, that with it they would be able to improve and expand, best example being Blogger with Google. However there is also the chance that they may be slowly intergrated and become just another portal feature, sorta like Gamecenter and Cnet. I guess a part of it is that I’ve not been very happy with how Yahoo has been over the last several years. Even today, their lawsuit against Xfire.comis worrysome. I trully hope that they treat Flickr with much better care, for they are very much more deserving.
Other software news include minor but important security fixes for both Firefox and Thunderbird. They are now up to versions 1.02. Of course for any software to have upgraded versions of so soon after release is not usually a good sign, but with the fast pace of the Internet and security threats developed throught it, I rather have something that the developers are making an effort to keep up to date and current in response to the Internet landscape than say something that hasn’t been majorly updated in years and only gets patch after patch, sorta like someone trying to fix holes in an already leaking dam.
