Broke. Quite broke.
And that pretty much sums up my status at the moment. But like a new friend told me, “God provides” and that He does.
How else in a situation of dried-up financial resources, would one be still able to acquire that is considered the current status object around these parts…a new handphone.
It’s not so much a matter of careful planning, but just pieces falling into place. “So happens” that Nigel’s phone plan is up and it so happens that I got stopped at a roadshow to switch to Internet providers, which was what I was planning to do eventually, all in the same month. So with voucher in hand, I’m able to acquire a new Sony Ericsson K700i at a mere $22.
Do I need a new phone? Nope. Do I need a phone with much touted features such as MP3 player? (Ipod.Nope) – calendar? (PDA. Nope) – digital camera? (perhaps. But the quality is much suspect).
That being said, I’m not one to ignore a new gadget, I will still attempt to make the most out of it, to get my money’s worth so to speak.
Impressions:
Speed – biggest complain I’ve heard regarding this model, so it’s the first thing I focused on. From what I can tell, the speed of the phone processing data such as phone books or SMS is not in itself slower, but it’s how the interface is designed around them that leads to it. Having to use the joystick to scroll through options while texting and the phonebook only being able to be search by the first letter of the contact are all interface decisions that only limits the speed of user interaction.
Themes – cool and all. Really gives the phone character. However care should be taken, as I’ve noticed that the theme in use actually effects the speed of the phone interface.
Mp3- good sound from a device with such varied features, but audio has always been one of Sony’s strong points. However only having 40mbs of memory build-in doesn’t lead to it being likely to be used in the field such as when travelling. The mp3′s make for good ringtones though.
Camera – seeing as how this is my first real long term test of a camera phone, I can’t really compare it to the camera’s on other models. But since I do have experience with digital cameras, all that comes to mind is that the quality really cannot compare. However, this would most likely to be the feature that I end up using the most, since I now have a change to include moblogging to this site.
